Molana Mushtaq Ahmad Khan was born into the humble Khan dynasty, known for its religious contributions. His father, Ghulam-ud-Din Khan, a Sufi cleric, significantly influenced his upbringing. Molana’s early education began at home and continued at the Government School Seer Hamdan. His commitment to religious practices became evident through his participation in local naat competitions and his initiative to clean the Jamia Masjid every Friday.
Career and Contributions
After clearing Matric, he became a teacher at Darsgah I Hamdania, where he transformed the education system and established the Hanfia Islamic Library. His thirst for knowledge led him to study under esteemed scholars, and he later graduated from Kashmir University. His leadership at the Darsgah facilitated its evolution into Hanfia High School, which has a rich history of academic excellence.
Religious Influence and Legacy
Molana Mushtaq Ahmad Khan’s profound love for Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was evident in his works, including the renowned poetry anthology “Aatash Kudah Ishq.” His lectures attracted diverse audiences, fostering unity among different sects. Tragically, in 2004, he survived an assassination attempt, further solidifying his role as a key religious figure in the region.
Educational Initiatives
He established a network of religious seminaries and English medium schools across Kashmir, with a vision to provide quality education and empower youth. Notably, he founded Darul-Uloom Khadijat-al Kubra for girls, pioneering advanced religious education for women in the region.
Final Years and Legacy
Molana Mushtaq Ahmad Khan passed away on 19 February 2019 after a prolonged illness. His funeral procession was historic, reflecting the immense respect he garnered as a scholar, leader, and poet. His contributions continue to inspire countless individuals in Kashmir and beyond.
